Draw Facial Hair

Jack Sparrow's beard definitely gives him his trademark pirate look! Learn how to eight types of facial hair--including his beard--following these steps.

 Steps

  1. 1
Draw an anchor-shaped form (upper left illustration), a hairless patch in the middle of the chin (upper right), flat-edged teardrop shapes (lower left), and leaf-shaped forms with braids (lower right). You can also mix and match each upper and lower component (for example, leaflike mustache with anchor-like beard). The more creative you are the better!

  2. 2
Once you've come up with the outline of your beard, color it however you like. Beards are typically the same shade or darker than the hair on a person's head, so try to keep the colors there as close to each other as possible.

  3. 3
Draw stem-like mutton chops (upper left), a roundish beard with an even larger patch of skin than in the previous set (upper right), a mustache with ruffled edges (lower left), and a handle-like edging around the cheeks and chin (lower right). Again, use your imagination to decide which part of each beard you should use for your character.

  4. 4
Color however you like. In case you'd forgotten, beards are typically the same shade or darker than the hair on a person's head, so try to keep the colors there as close to each other as possible. Use yellow, various shades of brown, black, red, or even white. If your beardface is a fantasy character or just someone who likes to experiment with his look, you can give him a different colored or patterned beard--that part is up to you.
